TOOTH UNCOVERY

Help! My Tooth Won't Come In!

In cases where teeth will not erupt spontaneously, your orthodontist and Dr. Reid will work together to get these teeth to erupt in the most predictable way.

Every case is evaluated on an individual basis, but treatment involves a combined effort.

Most scenarios will call for your orthodontist to place braces on the teeth and create a space to provide room for the impacted tooth. Once the space is ready, your orthodontist will refer you to Dr. Reid to have the impacted tooth exposed and bonded.

If the primary (baby) tooth has not fallen out, it is usually left in place until the space for the permanent tooth is ready, sometimes your orthodontist will recommend that we take out the primary tooth at the time of uncovery to help facilitate eruption of the permanent tooth.

We utilize a simple surgical procedure to expose the impacted tooth, usually under local anesthetic. Once the permanent tooth is exposed we place a small orthodontic bracket and chain to the tooth, which your orthodontist will then use to help pull the tooth into place.
